New York City witnessed the first specific dog breed pageant to ever happen in history.
A chihuahua pageant!
Over twenty chihuahuas competed for top crown of Ada Nieves' Mr or Miss NYC Chihuahua of 2009. It all happened at Happy Paws located in NoHo to benefit www.nypeticare.com a local rescue.
At first some were a little shy but they quickly overcame that fear after parading in front of the judges.
Chihuahuas like "Batman" who looked "cute" in one of the judges own words in the street wear category , was a top contender and certainly captured the audience attention for his personality.

"Chico" was diligent in his commands and "Emmett" was not far either.
Others like "Zeena", "Bambi" and "Sophie" were all "Chic" in their Howlin' evening wear.

At one point a tie..."DJ" scored big in his Arabian prince outfits, however it was the little black chihuahua all dressed in red that took the category and became one of the final three to compete for the top crown.
The three category winners and finalists were:
NYC Street Chihuahua - Tommi T. who walked on his own , showing chihuahuas are no shy from the streets of new York city.

NYC Barkin Bow - Kilo who gave his high five paws in command and on point, showing chihuahuas are smart and quick responders to their owners.

NYC Howlin' Evening wear - Mr. Biggles who wore a big red top hat and tuxedo that show cased his beautiful dark coat color. Note, mom was also wearing red.
A final decision involved the audience to select by applause their favorite and ultimum grand winner.
Again, a close call between a chihuahua who will be in a reality tv show and has no fear of walking the streets of new York against the little black chihuahua dressed in red who also did a pretty cool trick and had no problem in walk the streets in his cultural kimono.
Both winners already , only one could be called Top dog.
